National Cybersecurity Awareness Month is a reminder to keep your tech plan updated

If you’re a business owner or VP/C-level leader, Cybersecurity Awareness Month should not be the only reason to make changes to your security plans. Why? A well-managed cybersecurity plan will be built out as your organization grows and continually adjusted to respond to emerging attack vectors, and to incorporate new tech to ward them off.

A true cybersecurity protection plan will be supported by ongoing employee training, reliable data backups, a fully-tested disaster recovery plan and – unfortunately – the expectation that a breach WILL happen someday, and that your company is not immune to attack.

The crucial point of understanding is that when a network breach happens, your company must have a plan to discover, mitigate, and then cleanup after the event. When your company does experience a data breach, having a fully-formed and tested detection and resolution plan can make the difference between experiencing a catastrophic loss of revenue and industry reputation versus a calm, focused effort to minimize the damage while returning your business processes to normal functions. Which outcome would you prefer?

PASSWORD-ONLY SECURITY IS NO LONGER SUFFICIENT PROTECTION FOR BUSINESS DATA.

IMPLEMENT MULTI-FACTOR AUTHENTICATION (MFA) EVERYWHERE IT IS AVAILABLE.

Experience from the Beringer team shows that companies who haven’t yet deployed MFA are much more likely to fall victim to a bad actor/hacker attack.
