5 Tips To Boost Your Windows 10 PC’s Speed

Computers are constantly running high level tasks, which over time, slow down their overall speed and performance, leading to user frustration and decreased productivity.

Here are 5 tips to boost your Windows 10 PC’s speed.

1. Optimize Power Plan Settings

Windows has a pre-configured power plan that ensures maximum power without sacrificing performance. To access Windows power plan, right click on the start menu (located in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen) and choose Power Options from the list. From the opened window, select Additional Power Plans. You’ll then be presented with a set list. Select High Performance.

2. Disable Startup Applications and Programs

Many programs (once installed) are set by default to run in the background once the computer boots up. Most applications do not require running on startup since it consumes your computers RAM and GPU resources. To view the list of startup items, press the CRTL, ALT, and DELETE keys all at the same time. This will bring up a menu in which you’ll need to select Task Manager. Once Task Manager opens, click on the startup tab to view all programs and applications currently running, as well as their status. To disable an application, right click on the app(s) of your choosing, and select Disable.

3. Adjust The Windows Performance Options

If you are someone who favors performance over appearance, you have the ability to uncheck various pre-set Windows 10 performance settings. In the search bar in the lower right hand corner of the screen, type, Performance, then select Adjust the appearance and Performance of Windows from the start menu list. Ensure the Visual Effects tab is selected and the custom radio button is checked.

4. Download PC Cleaning / Tuning Software

Just like cars, PC’s need routine maintenance and tuning to ensure you are maximizing the performance and longevity of the computer. Having a dedicated PC cleaner program like CCleaner makes sure your PC is running at maximum performance. CCleaner is safe to download, is an industry support standard, and guarantees you’ll see an increase in performance.

  • Go to https://www.ccleaner.com/
  • Click on the Free Download option
  • Once the application completes downloading, run the Health Check and Custom Clean options

5. Disable Background Applications

Windows 10 has native apps that run by default in the background and will constantly drain resources unless toggled off. To view which applications are running, you’ll need to click on Settings (gear icon), click on Privacy, and choose Background Apps from the left side panel. You’ll be presented with a panel on the right-hand side “Choose Which Apps can run in the background.” Be sure to carefully go through the list so that you don’t accidently disable an application you use on a daily basis (camera, alarms, weather etc).
