Questions to ask before creating a Dynamics 365 Organization

With the increasing expansion of Dynamics 365 in other countries, many clients want to know how they can meet their country’s data governance policies and have a successful end user adoption. Fortunately, Microsoft makes this possible by having data centers across the globe, along with having multi-language and multi-currency support.

However, in order to properly meet those needs, you need to have the conversation with your team on their needs before creating a Dynamics 365 organization.  This is because many country specific settings are configured when the org is being created and cannot be changed unless you reset or re-create the organization.  With that being said, these are the top 3 questions you want to answer before creating your Dynamics 365 organization:

1. Does your country’s data governance policy require the data to reside in a particular region? In Dynamics 365, you have the ability to choose from a variety of regions in the world to store your data. However, this can only be configured when the database is first created. If you do create it in the wrong region, you will need to delete and recreate the database.  This could mean a data migration is required if data has already been imported to the existing organization.
2. What default currency does your organization work in? Dynamics 365 supports multi-currency, but you can only have one default currency (the one which acts as a base) and it can only be configured when the org is first created. After that, users can change the currency they wish to see when they are logged in.
3. What default language does your organization work in? Dynamics 365 has multi-language support, but you can only have one default language and it can only be configured when the org is first created.  This one isn’t as critical to know before creating the organization because at any point in time, end users have the ability to easily change their personal default language (as long as it has been installed by your admin, which can happen at any point in time.)
